The type of personal information we collect

We currently collect and process the following information:

  • Any information you provide, eg: name & contact details.

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • If you’re in contact with our own internal journalists. then any information you provide to them is saved in order to backup any article that is challenged. (Internal journalists project not started)
  • If you create a social account on any website in our network, then you are automatically registered across the entire network and able to interact seamlessly. Your personal information is any additional information you choose to disclose within the social network. Unlike other social networks (sneezzuckerberg cough cebook) your data will never be sold nor disclosed to any third party unless legally obliged to do so.

In summary, any personal information you choose to share anywhere in the network is secured, passwords are encrypted for added protection. None of your information will be sold nor used to target pesky things like targeted ads.

We also receive personal information indirectly, from the following sources in the following scenarios:

  • If you are a facebook / twitter / google / user and used your account to register an account on any website in the network then further information may be automatically processed, for example: your name, facebook or twitter profile picture.

We use the information that you have given us in order to provide a seamless transition and registration / login to all websites in the network using one of an existing social media account. 

We may share this information with absolutely nobody! Unless legally obliged to do so. 

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are: 

(a) Your consent. You can remove this by contacting or deleting your account. 

(b) We have a legal obligation.

(c) We have a vital interest.

(d) We need it to perform a public task.

(e) We have a legitimate interest.

 

How we store your personal information

Your information is securely stored using different providers: namecheap.com and ovh.com – also used is a content delivery network and additional security provider, cloudflare.com 

We keep any information you provide for any time period you decide. You can remove consent at any time by contacting us, or deleting your account. All data you have provided is automatically deleted upon deleting your account. 

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access – You have the right to download a copy of your personal information. 

Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate and you are strongly advised to do do, ASAP! As a network of citizen journalism websites it is envisaged that upon occasion there may be an inaccurate article and therefore invite correction. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete. 

Your right to erasure from an article– You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances. Under Article 17 of the UK GDPR individuals have the right to have personal data erased. This is also known as the ‘right to be forgotten’. The right only applies to data held at the time the request is received. It does not apply to data that may be created in the future.

It is extremely likely that we would NOT be complying with any request to erase any data or article in relation to someone who has committed the most heinous of crimes and would intend to fully defend this position through the legal system if necessary.

Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to object to processing – You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability – You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
